Due to the success of MB7IBF, the internet link in Blaenau Ffestiniog run from the workshop of Snowdonia Radio Company, thanks to Simon (MW0GSR). Meirion Amateur Radio Society (MARS) have put together a group of members to expand upon this radio / internet linking idea. The MARS links project, is simply an experiment, to find out if it is possible, using a variety of amateur radio bands and frequencies and internet linking, to connect the main villages and towns within our small area. Our aim is to try to make it possible to speak to other parts of our network / Meirionydd area, using even just a handheld radio, via our internet link. As anyone who knows the Barmouth, Dolgellau, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Penrhyndeudraeth area, we live surrounded by mountains, making it impossible to achieve radio communications between many of the local radio amateurs. MARS links is trying to overcome the propagation problems using the latest technology. Thanks to help from the RSGB ETCC, Ofcom, and our sponsors, MARS are aiming to open new link nodes over the next few weeks and months.
Meirionydd area outline map. We are hoping to cover some of the larger towns in this area with internet based radio links. After Blaenau Ffestiniog, our next areas may be Barmouth and Harlech, with Dolgellau, Towyn and Bala in the near future.

Coverage prediction for our next link.
